Southwestern Style Art from the Nature of the Desert

Hello - my name is Kent Thornell. I am an artist living in Oracle, Arizona - a small town in the northern foothills of the Santa Catalina Mountains. Oracle is about 35 miles north of and 2000 feet higher than Tucson. As it lies at 4500 feet elevation, it is much cooler, greener and wetter than the hot desert that lies below it. It abounds with various high-desert flora like mesquite, oak, yucca, manzanita, bear grass (indian basket grass), prickly pear, cholla and Arizona cypress as well as abundant wildlife. The terrain is mountainous with many varieties of beautiful stone. It is from these natural elements of the desert of the southwestern USA that I create my art.

Art Framing

I create unique, artistic framing for your art pieces. I custom create each frame so that it complements and enhances the beauty of the artwork itself as well as the decor and colors of the room in which it will be displayed. I use many natural materials found in the desert to create these frames, such as yucca seedpod stems, cholla skeletons, manzanita wood and dried bear grass.

Other Art

I also create original, three-dimensional wall art pieces. My art is a form of modern art composed exclusively of the natural elements of the Arizona desert as well as representative elements of the Mexican, Spanish, cowboy and Native American cultures for which the southwest United States is famous. I can custom create pieces of almost any size to fit in any decor or color scheme. Other than exclusively decorative pieces, I also create window blinds, lampshades, lamp bases and rockwork.
